Digital and Social Media Marketing MOOC

A pan-European university consortium, led by the Salford Business School at the University of Salford (UK), is tackling the digital skills gap with the launch of a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “Digital and Social Media Marketing“. The course is designed to allow individuals and businesses to analyse, plan, execute and evaluate digital marketing activities.

The digital industry in Europe alone grew by 11.8% in 2014 and, in the same year, digital advertising revenues became the second largest advertising spend in Europe behind TV. The challenge of how to keep up with this constantly growing and ever-evolving industry can be a daunting prospect for both business and individuals alike.

‘Digital and Social Media Marketing’ MOOC

The new ‘Digital and Social Media Marketing’ MOOC is a direct response to this challenge. It is aimed at individuals and business new to the world of digital marketing but have a basic understanding of social media and the role of social networks in business marketing. The course teaches much-sought after skills such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Social Media Optimisation, Affiliate Marketing and more. It puts a strong focus on real-world industry examples and hands-on learning.

Led by Salford Business School in the UK, which won the Times Higher Education ‘Business School of the Year’ in 2014, the course is funded with support of the European Commission. It has been developed and will be delivered through a pan-European partnership (JEMSS), which includes Kaunas University of Technology, University of Lodz, University of National and World Economy (UNWE) and CITY College, in consultation with digital marketing recruitment agency, The Candidate Ltd.

What is a MOOC?

A MOOC or a Massive Open Online Course comprises is a programme of lectures and activities that are done online. This mode of learning is becoming increasingly popular with the digitally connected but time poor individuals who want to keep up to date but are not able to attend conventional courses.
