How to start as a sole trader? The key step is registering for F-skatt – ‘F tax’ (the ‘F’ stands for företagare – entrepreneur). With F-skatt basically, you undertake work as an entrepreneur and not as an employee, so you will be held accountable if you do not administer your tax or social security payments.

Struggling about how F tax works? Check the (brochure) explaining how F tax works released by The Tax Agency. However, these are only in Swedish – it is important that you fill them correctly, so you may want to enlist the help of a translator and an accountant and/or make a personal appointment with the Tax Agency for guidance. #3 Streamline your internal business operations

Make your business plan

Having decided on which market you would like to serve, it is time to start getting a business plan on paper. You cannot do business alone; you will need help from banks, investors. A good business plan comes into play in getting others to listen.

As with a CV, the format of a business plan can vary from country to country; in certain countries, the idea is everything, whereas in others a sound financial footing is the key. offers an excellent guide to what Swedish bankers, investors and authorities look for in a business plan.

Employ legally

Now you are the boss and you might find yourself in the happy position of being able to offer work to others – then it is good to know the basic tenets of Swedish employment law.

Employment conditions in Sweden are regulated by the Employment Protection Act (Lagen om Anställningsskydd)  webpage in Swedish – often shortened to LAS). This act states that employment contracts are for an indefinite term unless otherwise explicitly stated in the employment contract. The act also contains a description of the four types of fixed-term employment contracts that cover everything from temporary replacement work to special legislation for those over the age of 67.

Swedish employment law has wide-ranging provisions for parental leave, holiday and pension entitlements. Therefore, make sure to familiarize yourself with the legislation before making the decision to hire. Otherwise, it will cost you a fortune.

Another way to deal with your labour needs is to sub-contract to other sole traders like you – just make sure they have registered for F-tax. Translations of the relevant labour laws and acts can be found on (the Swedish government’s website).

You can also benefit from hiring students for internships, and to do so, you can follow our guidelines.

Get your bookkeeping right

Contact the (Association of Swedish Accounting Consultants) and they can help you find a suitable firm in your area. If you do not have a head for figures and tax and regulations, it is worth paying someone else to do it.

There are plenty of qualified firms out there that specialize in helping small firms like yours who will bill you an hourly rate for their services. One of the easiest ways to find a good, trustworthy accountant is to ask other entrepreneurs in the same field whom they use. The whole point of setting up your own business is to get the most out of your talents; an accounting consultant can also teach you how to write invoices properly according to Swedish regulations and laws.

However, remember that hiring an accountant does not free you from the responsibility of understanding basic bookkeeping, so if you have not already done so, take some time to learn the basics.

#4 Get Funds, Get Friends & Create routine for your business

Financing your business

Stating the obvious – unless assignments pour in from the beginning, you will need to make sure you can pay your regular household bills as you get your venture off the ground. Maybe you will use your savings to finance your first few months, or you might build up your business slowly alongside a full- or part-time job.

Of course, you can also apply to your bank for a business loan, but as most businesses are not profitable in the beginning, they will require you to put up some sort of security. An alternative for financing is (Almi Företagspartner) , a state-owned company that helps businesses with capital and advice. Though their interest rates are often higher than the banks, they usually require less security. You can read more about what they provide here.

Network is key

One of the keys to success in business is in making your network work for you, regardless of what country you are in. Besides friends, colleagues and relatives you might have in Sweden, how and where do you find people with ideas similar to yours?

You could contact your local branch of the Swedish Jobs and Society Foundation (Nyföretagarcentrum ), who provide advice to new businesses and hold regular events around the country as well as  ( in a new tab)) that can help you connect with other companies. Another way to find advisors and build your network is through a website called ( – set up by three Swedish authorities (the Companies Registration Office, the Tax Agency and the Agency for Economic and Regional Growth); they have (a page to help you find advisors) depending on which region you are living in.

Swedes are very much an online breed, so as you get to know more people, use social networking tools like LinkedIn and Facebook to help you keep track of your new contacts.

The benefits of developing habits

On a more general note – organize yourself. Most entrepreneurs will be eager to work as hard as possible on the sales side, to begin with, but make sure you find time over for the administration side of your business too. This tip applies to any budding entrepreneur, regardless of where you are in the world.

Make sure to take some time each month to review your progress and talk to your financial advisors about what taxes or other charges need to be paid. Doing so will help you compare your progress to your business plan and allow you to make adjustments while keeping you on the right side of the authorities. and watch your networks grow.

We hope that you’ve found the information you were looking for to develop your successful business in Sweden!

4 Tips to improve your SEO ranking

If you just created your business and are interested to improve your SEO ranking of your website, here are the top tips to boost your search engine optimization.

Before we start, what is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? SEO is a process that allows your website (and any other digital artefacts such as images and video content), to be more visible and better-ranked on Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). It matters when compared to other websites delivering similar content and targetting the same search phraises.

Nowadays, because of hyperconnectivity, people are using search engines on a daily basis. Thus, it is necessary for companies to optimize websites in the best way.

4 tips to improve your SEO ranking
<img src=” Photo by Carlos Muza on Unsplash.png” alt=”#4Tips to improve your SEO ranking”/>

#Tip 1 Create Relevant Content

The main driver of your search engine rankings will be the quality of the content you will create for your website, images or your video. This is the key to attract visitors to your digital profiles. To do so you need to understand what your visitors are looking for and what their challenges are.

Use Keywords to improve your SEO ranking

Learn what terms your visitors will be using. A keyword is a particular word or phrase that internet users write when they perform a search on a search engine. Using keywords helps you to appear in more relevant search results. It will also help to have a better understanding of how your visitors/audience could reach your digital profiles. However, it is necessary to think of the specific keywords or keyword phrases that your visitors are searching to find a particular topic.

One of the most important SEO tactics in a good search engine result page (SERP) listing. To develop this you would need to take into account how a visitor would search for information on a particular product or service you are providing. Indeed, the keywords they use are likely to be the ones you want to be using in your content!

Use tools such as Google Trends to learn about potential keywords they might use.

Moreover, the placement and the popularity of your keywords throughout your content are crucial. Integrate them in the appropriate sections of the page would allow the search engines to pay more attention when examining the content, and thus attract the right visitor to your website. Places where you should try to include your keywords are:

  • Web page name
  • Page title
  • Heading 1
  • First paragraph
  • Images
  • PDF files

You can also use geo-targeted keywords if you have a business that is associated with a particular physical location. It will help your company to reach visitors from a specific area, it would also be useful if you are a local business. For example a florist in London could use keywords such as:

  • Florist in London
  • Wedding flower supplier in London
  • London based Valentines day flowers delivery

The content of your website should include the keywords you defined previously. Use them several times throughout your page, at the beginning and at the bottom of your page but also in the headings when possible.

To organize your page, do not forget to use italics, bold for example. If you want to emphasize some keywords throughout the body of your text. However, keep in mind that your text must stay readable for human visitors of your pages, do not overuse it!

Engaging content

One key when creating a page is quality over quantity. Having many pages on your website does not mean that you are going to attract many visitors.

For websites that have superficial content, a good tip would be to include pictures, videos, or even infographics. Focusing on meaningful content will make visitors want to stay on your page and read the full article.

#Tip 2 Guest blog post opportunities to improve your website visibility

Links from other websites

Develop external links from other websites. To search engines, having links from external websites is a sign of accuracy, usefulness and relevancy of your content. Not all links have the same ‘weight’. Thus, it is better for you to be linked to from highly reputable websites in order to improve your SEO ranking.

When creating links within text, try to write the name of the destination or use descriptive links. Do not use “click here”. Indeed, “click here” does not bring any value to your readers nor the search engine. Try to write a name which is rich in keywords such as “Business Culture Website” for example – or the company name you are linking to. It will help with the ranking of the page you are linking to.

When looking for places for guest blog posts, your main goal is to figure out which websites are  relevant to your niche or industry. The blogs that you are looking for need to fit the following criteria:

How to find guest blogging opportunities?

  • The content of the blog is related to your niche / industry.
  • The audience of the blog will be interested in your industry.
  • The blog has an engaged community
  • The blog owner is active on social media (to ensure that they will be promoting your blog posts on their website and their social media).

An additional tip for you: Did you know that is accepting guest posts as well? If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.

#Tip 3 The Meta description Tag to reach a higher SEO ranking

The meta description is a very important HTML attribute in SEO that provides for your customers a brief summary of a web page and indicates on SERPS what your page is about. Actually, it will help search engines to understand how relevant your page is, and help them decide how they will rank your page. Your content must be pertinent so it can highly improve your SEO ranking.

The length of the meta description – a description of the page’s content – changes all the time. It has been recently increased by Google up to 230 characters. The Keywords of the target page must be unique and convincing enough for the customer to click on the page. It is also truly important to review and update your Metadata as your site changes over time.

Title Metadata

One of the most important metadata elements in a web page is the page Title. This is an essential field not to be neglected as part of a good SEO strategy and it’s the first thing the user will see on SERPS. However, the title must be in adequacy with the content, theme and the subject of the page, to simplify the user experience.

#Tip 4 Boost website loading time to improve the SEO ranking

Optimized speed can have many advantages for a website, a few seconds loading could have a big impact on your ability to attract visitors and can decrease customer satisfaction. This means that having a fast loading site is important. You must regularly use the analytic tools, that allows you to examine the content of the pages, such as Google Page Speed Insights. Such tools can suggest to you how to make your website faster regarding web page performance or data transfer.

It is necessary to lighten the pages as much as possible and avoid overloading the sites with too many videos, sliders, images or even advertisements because it slows down the speed of your site. It is necessary to have clear and simple pages, it should improve your visibility the speed of your site and help your readers to benefit from your content.

Finally, understanding how SEO works is key to improve your website and adapt the content to the specific needs of your target audience! Do not forget to constantly update your site and post new articles in order to keep your visitors engaged!
